Localizing AndiCar

Localizing AndiCar is an easy task. All you need is to translate some xml files which include all the labels, messages and database initialization strings.

All translators are mentioned in the AndiCar "About screen" and on the home page of AndiCar.

The localization process consists of these steps:
1. Download the English version of the xml files (right click on the link and choose "Save as..."). These are:
• strings.xml used for user interface labels and messages/notifications
• db_init.xml used at install time for database initialization
• arrays.xml used for drop-box/spinner initializations

2. Translate the strings from these files.
The structure of the xml files:
most files (excepting arrays.xml) contains the strings in the form of:
<string name=<String_Name>"Translatable Text"</string> where:
• String_Name: should not be translated. It is used internally to find the desired string.
• "Translatable Text": should be translated
For example:
<string name="APP_Description">"Free and open source car management software."</string>
only the "Free and open source car management software." should be translated.
• In the arrays.xml the translatable strings are those between the
and
tags (for example
Highest
)
• are comment delimiters.
Recommended editors:
• WordPad for Windows users
• Kate, KWrite, GEdit for Linux users
• Be sure your editor uses UTF-8 encoding!

3. Write your name and email address in the header comment:
